The new town hall gallery

The new Rathaus Galerie Essen in its full bloom

Our beloved Rathaus Galerie Essen has been located in the heart of Essen’s city center since 1979. There are various restaurants and numerous stores in the immediate vicinity. The gallery was extensively modernized back in 2012 with the aim of becoming an attractive meeting place for numerous visitors – a meeting place for young and old. In addition to the revitalization of the outdoor area and the visual changes, the large food court was also redesigned. The “Mahlzeit” food court was opened on September 15. This is intended to create a cozy atmosphere in which to linger. We would therefore like to invite you to visit us at the Rathaus Galerie Essen – please feel free to drop by if you get the chance.

Meeting place with a high feel-good factor

Our Rathaus Galerie will once again become a meeting place for Essen and the surrounding area. Just as it is the place of trust for the native Ruhrpottler:innen. The food court invites you to meet friends and linger a while. After all, we want you to feel at home here.

“Mahlzeit is down-to-earth, relaxed, open and, above all, multicultural. Everyone is welcome here. The design of our new meeting point is characterized by a mix of different materials and colours. In doing so, we have oriented ourselves to typical features of the Ruhr region. Industrial-inspired materials meet the colorful architecture of allotment gardens, kiosks and the like.

Give yourself a break

“Mahlzeit,” says the Ruhr Valley native when he meets his friends, colleagues and neighbors for a currywurst or a “Bütterken”, aka sandwich, at his regular drinking spot. Many allotment gardens, numerous street cafés and various kiosks bring people together on a daily basis. It doesn’t matter how old you are or where you come from. Our food court will therefore be a place where you can enjoy a proper snack. The restaurateurs invite you with various offers. Just want to grab an energy-boosting coffee or some tasty fries to keep you going?

Then come by – we look forward to your visit!
